Kobalt is preparing to enter Chinese music market. One reason for this is that Kenney Shiu, once appointed as ew Director Finance & A&R at BMG China, now joins Kobalt.
Though the specific plan of Kobalt is still unclear, it is sure that Kobalt is currently considering to enter the Chinese market.
Kenney Shiu is talented. In March 2015, he joined BMG China. He directly worked with Dora Yi (CIO of BMG China), and mainly responsible for expanding business in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Dora Yi explained that establishing scaled market in China was the highest strategy of BMG. Also, they warmly welcomed and trusted Kenney Shiu as well as his experienced team. In response, Kenney showed that he felt honorable and happy to work with BMG and Dora.
Unexpectedly, this team joins Kobalt within a year.
Kenney had been the accounting manager in Warner Music for four years and then appointed as General Manager of Asia Pacific of Peermusic.
From his working experience, we can list the companies that once tried to enter the Chinese market. However, due to various reasons, most of them started from Hong Kong and Taiwan. Not long ago, BMG acquired two Chinese song libraries which are dominated by songs from HK and Taiwan. However, it is quite enough in terms of entering the Chinese market. Except form these, BMG also signed partnership with the regional giant —- Alibaba.
So, what is the next plan of Kobalt after the appointment of Kenney?
