December 22nd, Tencent Entertainment released 2015 Tencent Entertainment White Paper. The theme is After the Chaos, before the launch. In order to explain the 2015 entertainment, it researches from six major dimensions, including stars, films, TV dramas, variety show, music and generation after 90s.
CMBN found some interesting data in White Paper. The followings are our views on it.
Most of us agree that the domestic show market develops rapidly in recent years. However, according to the statistics, the number of concerts in 2015 is 1371, which roughly flats with the 1340 shows in 2014. But the number of festivals in 2015 decrease 25%, dropping from 100 to 75. It means that, in terms of data, the speed of domestic show market is slowing down. Whereas the growing of festivals was wild before, and there emerged lots of festivals that lack of size and maturity. With the standardization of show business, the decline of festivals seems to be more reasonable, which is the result of industrial development. Therefore, the number shows a slower growing rate, festivals will increase more standardized with industrial development.
In the Music Chapter of White Paper, there are three groups of statistics about non-mainstream folk music. It is noticeable that folk music is very hot in 2015 entertainment. Except for four groups of folk musicians entering Workers Stadium, the data also made a list according to artists’ values. This year, the highest valued musicians are Hao Meimei band with 250,000- 350,000 yuan. Their value last year was 160,000 – 180,000 yuan. Li Zhi ranked the second with 250,000- 300,000 yuan. His value last year was 150,000 – 200,000 yuan. The third is Song Dongye, with 250,000 yuan this year, and the number was 120,000 to 160,000 yuan in the past year. Judging from the top three, their values have doubled or even trebled this year. Besides those three folk artists, Ma Di, Chen Li, Zhao Lei and Ma Tiao also worth more than 100,000 yuan.
What is also worth noticing is that the popularity of talent show singers has decreased more than 20 times than the past two years. The data illustrate that Chen Zitong, Zhang Lei and Su Yunying only have hundred thousands of followers, while Zhang Bichen, Li Jiage has ten millions of followers. That is to say, music talent shows have lost their attractions to the audience. TV programs that participated by famous singers such as I Am a Singer and Superstar China are more welcomed. Talent shows, once thrived, is now losing its popularity.
It is also interesting that, though Chinese music is declining, many after 90s still listen to Chinese songs. Male after 90s prefer HK and Taiwan pop music, while female are more interested in mainland pops, which might have a close relationship to mainland young handsome groups in recent years. Additionally, apart from Chinese pops, after 90s are more likely to listen to western pop music, followed by Japanese and Korean pops. It means that their preference towards Japanese and Korean pop music is slower than expectation. Meanwhile, though folk music is very hot this year, folk and rock are still the minority in the circle.
