Amazon is considering buying podcast startup Wondery for around US$300 million. Talks of acquisition is still in early stage but this move demonstrates Amazon’s ambition in the consumer audio market.
December 16th, 2020 will be Beethoven’s 250th birthday. To pay tribute to Beethoven, Beijing Forbidden City Concert Hall will hold Run! Beethoven-2020 Beethoven Marathon Concert. The concert was held on December 12th from 10 am to 10 pm, and divided into three major parts: piano solo, ensemble, symphony, and a pop-up seminar and a special children’s concerts. The performance lineup included Beijing Symphony Orchestra, pianist Xu Hong(徐洪), violinist Xie Nan(谢楠), and soprano Song Yuanming(宋元明).
At 8pm December 3rd, the original music festival created by MiGu Music (咪咕音乐)– Real Me·M-Zone 2020 Calling Night” (Real Me·动感地带2020来电之夜) was launched online. The highlight of this festival is the usage of 5G+4K and VR/AR/MR technology.
On December 4th, Shanghai’s first stage play to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, “Red Starting Point” (《红色的起点》) officially premiered at Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre. The play is directed by Tian Qinxin(田沁鑫), the deputy director of the National Theatre. There will be 10 performances from December 4th to December 13th.
On December 4th, Dream Media Group held a fan meeting in Beijing Daxilou where the company announced that GAI(周延)’s first vinyl record would go on sale soon and that it has acquired VaVa(毛衍七)’s management agency Yes Music. The meeting is followed by TME Live Dream Media Online Concert where Will.T(威尔), GAI and VaVa performed, signaling a new chapter in the company’s development.
On December 6th, the first Hainan LZ King International Culture and Music Festival will be held on December 26th at Haikou Changying Wonderland. This festival gathered the hottest rappers in China, such as Lil Ghost(小鬼王琳凯), Tizzy T, 404RAPPER, J.zen(朱星杰). These young artists will bring wonderful rap performances to tourists and locals here.
Due to the resurgence of coronavirus cases in Hong Kong, the promoters of Miriam Yeung(杨千嬅)’s MY GRATITUDE 25 Concert 2020 announced on December 5th that after one recent visitor of the Hong Kong Coliseum tested positive for COVID-19, they’ve decided to cancel the 6 concerts that were supposed to be held on December 23th to 26th, 31st and January 1st to ensure the safety of all parties involved. The promoters also assured fans that they will reschedule the concerts or present it in another form as soon as it is feasible and safe.
On November 28th, the rapper After Journey(艾福杰尼) participated in the recording of Youku’s original youth basketball competition variety show Dunk of China(《这！就是灌篮》). In the show, he sang the song “Double Eagles” (《双雕》) from his new album to cheer up the contestants.
On November 29th, pianist Lang Lang was invited to hold a special concert for the 10th Anniversary Celebration of Southern University of Science and Technology in the concert hall of the Southern University of Science and Technology Conference Center.
On December 2nd, 2020, the first China International Copyright Management Collective Summit was held in Beijing. This forum is the first international summit about copyright management collectives. The summit is organized by China Audio-Video Copyright Association. At the summit, Zhou Yaping(周亚平), Vice Chairman and Acting Director of China Audio-Video Copyright Association, and Lu Yang(陆瑒), General Manager of Music Content and Copyright of Beijing Bytedance Technology Co., Ltd. signed a strategic partnership agreement.
On November 27th, HIFIVE and PILLZ have reached a copyright partnership agreement which gives HIFIVE the rights to manage and service PILLZ’s copyrights. Through this partnership, PILLZ content will be released on the “HIFIVE Music Open Platform”, which allows the content to be used for short video and distributed through many channels such as live streaming and public broadcasting. The content will also be launched on AGM’s commercial music authorization website (agm.hifive.ai) to allow online commercial music authorization services through the platform.
On November 29th, former Warner Music/Universal Music China Marketing Director posted on Weibo that Xiami (虾米音乐) will be closed in January next year. The editor-in-chief and operation director of Xiami Music are currently having a meeting in Beijing, and there will be some some staff changes when they go back. Xiami Music is likely to be dissolved. On November 30th, Xiami’s parent company Alibaba responded that it doesn’t have any comment regarding this issue.
On December 13th, the “2020 Short Video Conference” was held in Xiamen. As the leading podcast platform in China, Dragonfly FM (蜻蜓FM) was invited to participate in this event. At this conference, Dragonfly FM signed a strategic cooperation agreement on the “Minnan Cultural Audio Content Production Center” project, and plans to establish a Minnan Cultural Audio Content Production Center in Xiamen Intelligent Audiovisual Industry Base.
On December 1st, Tencent Music Entertainment Group’s indie musician service center — Tencent Musician held the “Original Music Sharing Salon Music Industry Lecture” on the campus of Tsinghua University, and officially launched the “Tencent Musician Campus Treasure Project” .
TiMi Studio Group (天美游戏工作室) is one of the four major gaming studio groups of Tencent’s interactive entertainment business group. Its most notable works include Honor of Kings, QQ Speed, X-GAME, and Assault Fire. To celebrate its 12th Anniversary, TiMi collaborated with Rainbow Chamber Singers (上海彩虹室内合唱团) to release its 12th anniversary theme song “A Moment for a Game, A Moment for Yourself.” The Song is written by Jin Chengzhi(金承志), a long-time gamer.
Recently, W8VES, the brand new label jointly created by bilibili.com and 88rising, released its first single “Wan Wu Shuo” (《万悟说》). The song also launched on KFC’s mobile app. Users can find the song in the K-music page of the app and play it as background music in KFC restaurants and have a chance to win W8VES merchandise.
In addition, KFC will also launch a W8VES theme restaurant in Sanlitun, Beijing.
On December 3rd, the teaser for the first rap label music travel program, Rap For Youth(《说唱新世代》)’s sequential show was released on Bilibili. The full show will be released on Bilibili at 8pm every Friday starting from December 11th.
